If you think that Peruvian and Japanese cuisine are nothing like one another, well little do you know. Apparently this combination is huge all over the world and Buenos Aires couldn’t be any less.
With a decoration that has been taking care of to the last detail, Godoy is the embodiment of the fusion concept. A rebuilt train warehouse located alongside the train tracks in Palermo, inside it is the essence of modern, whilst keeping with the old warehouse feel. It offers not only a unique ambience, but also great options for food and drinks for those who are up for something new.
Although both countries share the same basic foods – such as fish, shellfish and rice – they differ in the preparation. That’s when the fusion comes in as its secret lies precisely in finding the right balance in giving an occidental meal an Asian touch, or the other way round.
The hottest plates are the vieyras grilled with cheese and the Wan Tan filled with centolla and salmon. However Chef Alejandro Goñi recommends the upcoming ceviche sushi, an interesting dish with the best of Peru and most traditional of Japan to welcome in the summer.
Although the dessert covers a range of rather traditional options – rather than fusion – it wont let you down. There are a few chocolate options, but the absolut favourite is the ‘mango soup’ a fruit puree with candy that once in your mouth dissolves creating a bitter sweet explosion on the tongue.
The food is a little bit pricy, but for those who just want to have a good night out they can enjoy the joys of the bar, or the enormous wooden deck lined with bamboo outside, or the lounges placed in different areas of the bar, or even enjoy a quiet drink sitting on the cellar’s sofas.
Filled with foreigners and locals, Godoy is as perfect for a night out with friends just knocking down some caipiroskas as much as for a romantic candlelit dinner; it’s the kind of place that is versatile enough to be adapted for any plan. You pocket might resent you, but you, you wont regret it.
